Left 4 Dead 2 on Linux was faster than on Windows.
At the very beginning of work on L4D2 for Linux, the FPS indicator did not exceed 6 FPS.
Now, the Linux version “squeezes out” up to 315 FPS, while L4D2 on Windows can only run at a maximum of 270.6 FPS.
In general, few people need this, because.To. 60 FPS is enough for the human eye.
For reference: Movies are shot at 30 FPS.
The test itself was carried out with the following configuration:
– Intel Core i7 3930k
— NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680
– 32 GB RAM
– Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit
-Left 4 Dead 2
– Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit

60 frames looks much better and more realistic. Movements are smoother. The picture is clearer and more natural. These are purely my feelings. Search on Google for a new hobbit or on torrents for a 60 fps avatar – until you see it for yourself, you won’t understand the difference.
Regarding updates, the point is that you immediately allow them to be installed during installation. If not, then suffer with such sequences, or install a new one at once 12… Win xp You didn’t notice that you can’t upgrade to Win7? Firstly, most programs will not work, and secondly, the update can be called partial, because a lot of traces from XP wines haunt us..
System updates (that is, patches) but not updating to a new version (I may be wrong).
In your opinion this is generally normal? In my opinion, it is logical to add a function that allows you to IMMEDIATELY upgrade to the latest version of the distribution.
Well, the comparison is immediately incorrect. Firstly, XP and Windows 7 are completely different OSes, while the new version of the distribution is nothing more than an extensive update (in fact, the same SP for Windows).
RTL8111E and all the chips https://simbagamescasino.co.uk/games/ from this line… For a VERY long time they were not supported by all common distributions (Ubuntu, Arch, OpenUse, Mandriva, etc.). That is, the owners of motherboards with this and related LAN chips simply had no Internet.
As it turned out, the problem was that for some reason Linux did not have the correct driver that Realtek released… As a result, to fix the problem, first using Windows, I had to download the driver and then the person encountered a new problem… The instructions that were given in the readme file did not work and it was impossible to assemble the driver. As a result, I personally danced for 3 days (. ) with a tambourine and somehow miraculously installed the driver and OH MIRACLE everything worked.
The problem with LAN chips was “solved” only after almost a year. And then the Internet periodically disappeared and the speed jumped and never reached the maximum..
*I listed everything from my own experience.
On top of everything else, apparently Linux does not support Realtek HD Audio and as a result the sound sounds terrible ._.

And then you say that the systems are different, Win XP and 7, so they can’t update so easily… Why then did you think that Ubuntu 10 should update to 12 by itself?? You yourself have lost the logic in this and are complaining..
And regarding Rialtek and other things – I repeat. I’ve never encountered such a problem. Maybe I was just lucky, maybe I didn’t come across such specific equipment. But, again, as I said, I got into a lot of equipment, which even in wine required dancing for it to stand up properly..
PS: in any case, I’m blogging… I love it when people really discuss it, and don’t just write “1 shit, 2 forever” =)))
I didn’t lose the logical thread. During installation, you can download updates for Linux, but I don’t remember very well whether these updates are “patches” or distribution updates… That’s why I said that I might be wrong.

I repeat. There is practically nothing connecting Win XP and Win 7; they are different OSes, which is why a regular update is impossible. At the same time, different versions of Ubuntu are the same system, the only difference is in the set and “freshness” of packages. Thus, updating Ubuntu is possible (which is implemented in Ubuntu). BUT I am not satisfied with the update process that does not provide an update immediately to the newest version.
The actual process looks like this
1.You are downloading a slightly newer set of packages
2.You are downloading the same set of packages, but it is newer again
And so on until the newest set of packages is downloaded. Thus, a person wastes a lot of time because it is impossible to skip downloading old versions of the same packages and immediately start downloading the newest set of packages. This is exactly what I am not happy with..
The Intel GMA 500 is found on a large selection of netbooks, the sound chip from Realtek is found almost everywhere, the RTL8111E and related chips are found on a wide range of motherboards from major manufacturers. The only thing special is the webcam.
Making such harsh statements without any arguments is cool, and determining the system from video recording is generally worthy of Superman. And what is the difference between DX11 and OpenGL, besides the clumsiness of the first?
Naturally he is faster. In Linux there are no fucking holes in Windows, and accordingly there is no fucking DX, which lives only because of the policy of small soft.
I’m waiting for more games to run on Linux, although the wait is long, the soft ones won’t be given up so easily by the market.
Plus, to refute the theory “Linux is not for games,” there is this video of a game engine on Linux:

For a start, it would be good if Linux itself contributed to this… Otherwise, they still can’t do it so that when installing drivers that are not in the repository, you wouldn’t have to dance with a tambourine.
By the way, in the process of working with hardware manufacturers, we also accelerated the implementation of OpenGL for Windows. Left 4 Dead 2 runs on 303.4 FPS in this configuration.
